Specialist Prosthodontist
Dr Adam Hamilton is a Specialist Prosthodontist at The Brånemark Center in West Perth and the Discipline Lead in Prosthodontics at the University of Western Australia Dental School. He graduated with Honours in Dentistry from the University of Western Australia in 2006 and completed a Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics at the University of Melbourne. He is a Fellow by examination of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a Member of the College in Prosthodontics, and a Fellow of the Academy of Australian and New Zealand Prosthodontists, the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and the Academy of Osseointegration. As an ITI Scholar, he then completed a Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida Center for Implant Dentistry, giving him formal training in both the surgical and prosthetic aspects of implant therapy.
Adam is best known for his clinical work. Drawing on his specialist prosthodontic training and surgical fellowship, he performs both the implant surgery and the restorative treatment, so patients are cared for by one specialist from diagnosis through to the final restoration. He has practised as a specialist prosthodontist since 2013, with particular interest in immediate implant placement and loading, full arch implant rehabilitation and complex oral rehabilitation. His clinical skills are in demand among other clinicians: he has performed live implant surgery demonstrations, led hands-on surgical and restorative workshops internationally, and is a sought-after teacher of clinical dental photography, which he has taught at Harvard, the University of Bern and through international speaker development programs. Photography is central to his own practice, supporting precise aesthetic planning, communication and documentation for every patient.
Personalised care is at the heart of Adam’s practice philosophy. He is a co-author of the Bio-Restorative concept for implant-supported restorations, which designs treatment to respect and support the biology of each patient’s surrounding soft tissue and bone, and he uses digital diagnostic and planning tools to tailor every treatment to the individual. For patients and referring colleagues, this means treatment planned around the current best evidence and delivered with contemporary digital technology, including 3D scanning, virtual treatment planning and computer guided implant surgery. Adam values close communication with referring dentists and shares treatment planning with them throughout their patient’s care.
Adam holds a faculty appointment at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, where he continues to teach, having served as Assistant Professor and Director of the Division of Regenerative and Implant Sciences and of the Advanced Graduate Oral Implantology program from 2016 to 2021. At UWA he leads the specialist training program for Western Australia’s future prosthodontists, and internationally he serves on the ITI Global Leadership Development Committee.
In 2026 Adam was awarded Fellowship of the Academy of Osseointegration, one of the highest honours in implant dentistry, held by around 120 clinicians worldwide. He is one of only two Australians among the Academy’s current Fellows, alongside Professor Patrick Henry, founder of the original Brånemark Center. Adam was named ITI Australasia Educator of the Year in 2025 and received the UWA Dental School Early Career Research Award in 2026 following commendations in 2024 and 2025. He has twice received the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry Hickey Scientific Writing Award (2021 and 2025), along with best research presentation awards from the European Association for Osseointegration and the Academy of Osseointegration and a Career Achievement Award from Harvard.
Adam is co-author of ITI Treatment Guide Volume 14 on immediate implant placement and loading, a clinical reference used by implant clinicians worldwide and translated into 37 languages, and has contributed chapters and clinical cases to Volumes 10, 11, 14 and 16 of the series. He was an author at the ITI Consensus Conferences in Amsterdam (2018) and Lisbon (2023), both of which set international guidelines for implant placement and loading protocols, and was invited to contribute to the first Global Consensus for Clinical Guidelines in Boston (2025) on implant rehabilitation of the upper jaw. He has published more than 70 peer reviewed papers, serves on the editorial boards of three international journals, and has spoken at more than 50 national and international congresses since 2021, including the main podium of the ITI World Symposium.
